I'm sure you've been hounded with Black Friday "deals" for the past few weeks. Instead of this yearly tradition that pressures you to spend money on things you might not need, how about we flip the script on what this time at the end of the year means?

Even before my business generated millions of dollars per year in revenue, I decided to step off the Black Friday train and allow myself to embrace what my soul really desired this time of year: quiet.

To be clear - there's 100% nothing wrong with running a BF sale.

I just prefer to take this time to rest.

And while launches don't necessarily have to be stressful, things come up. So while I could run a big sale, and have my team checking Slack on Black Friday to help people with the inevitable broken links and landing page issues -- I voluntarily step out of the rat race this time of year and I’m more than OK with it.

Will my competitors run sales? Could that mean I lose out? Sure 🤷🏽‍♀️ Who the heck cares! Not everything in life is about making more, more, more. My happiness and quality of life come at quite the cost, too.

I just want you to know that it’s possible to build a successful business without doing what everyone else is doing. Your business success won’t be made or broken on a single sale when everyone else is running one. You can do it on your own terms, whatever that looks like.

P.S. - While a full-blown promo doesn't align with how I want to spend this weekend, I did leave a special code in my online template shop. No pressure to buy or big promotion behind it - just my way of saying "thanks" to anyone who has "legal protection for my business" on their list when deal hunting. It doesn't have to be all or nothing.

Just recently wrapped up our annual planning retreat in Mexico with the SVW team 🌴📊

We had a beautiful time soaking up the sun, views, and vibes while gathering info to bring 2024 in strong.

After reflecting and brainstorming with my team, I brought back some key biz lessons for 2024. One of the main things was when it comes to making decisions, we figured out it's way better to look at the numbers instead of going with our gut. Trusting that gut feeling is important in most cases but it's also a great idea to pause and analyze the numbers to see where you stand.

Just as people, we can overcomplicate things sometimes when in reality if we zoom out, it actually doesn't have to be difficult. Simplicity isn't just a concept; it's a mantra, reminding us that the most effective solutions are often the simplest.

In the professional world, every qualification has a regulatory body or an overseeing profession that defines what it can and can not do. This concept of a 'scope of practice' is not exclusive to a particular field; it applies across the board to various coaches and practitioners.

Sometimes, people believe that merely because they've acquired knowledge through a course or certification, they can automatically teach that knowledge to others. However, that's not necessarily the case. Possessing knowledge doesn't grant you the professional license to educate or guide others in a particular field.

In reality, there are specific licensing and professional organizations that establish the rules and boundaries within each profession. It's crucial to understand and respect these boundaries, ensuring that you operate within your authorized scope of practice. In essence, being a professional goes beyond acquiring knowledge; it involves acknowledging the limitations of your qualifications and adhering to the regulations set by your professional body. This way, we ensure the safety and well-being of those seeking guidance or assistance.

You don’t need that to grow your business…

Knowing I’m going away soon, I was determined not to buy any groceries this entire week. (Yesterday’s lunch: this chicken sausage with roasted sweet potato, Brussels, and red onion with TJs organic chicken nuggets 😂).

Normally, I can’t wait to go to TJs or Whole Foods and stock up on my favorite veggies and totally unnecessary condiments.

But I wanted to challenge myself to cook through my fridge to:
- prevent waste & be more environmentally conscientious
- save money
- learn how to make due with what I’ve got
- be scrappy & creative

When you’re building an online business, there’s a lot of pressure to do MORE.

BUY more
CREATE more
CONSUME more
LEARN more

Make more money so that you can buy more stuff…

But when I think back to the earliest years of my business — when I had very little funds, if any, in my business bank account but I was flush with lots of determination,

I realize how important of a skill it was to be scrappy and creative.

To learn how to make a ‘meal’ out of a bunch of random ingredients, a la Chopped style.

So before you feel like there’s something else you need to buy in order to make your business successful —

Ask yourself, what can I make out of what I already have?
Have I gotten scrappy and creative enough with what I’ve invested in already?

Maybe it’s not that course’s fault that it didn’t work on your business. Or that strategy that didn’t work for you, that works for everyone else.

Maybe it’s slowing down and being intentional with your purchases — and actually implementing what we’ve got already.
