Well, sort of 🤣

If you keep up my instagram stories, then you've likely seen me share some small bits here and there of my book in progress. I see my book writing journey as an opportunity to get better as a writer and learn new things along the way. I also think it's pretty cool to get the type of feedback that I am getting from my publisher for something big like this.

The excerpt that I shared on today's episode of @onyourtermspodcast talks about how I went through many stages of feeling like a failure. I left being a full-time lawyer to start a health coaching business, but I quickly realized that that's not what I wanted to do. I just felt like I was pivoting so much but still failing. I felt like I failed by leaving my education and career behind and starting a coaching business that ended up not working out. All of this was necessary because I learned so much from my mistakes and, in turn, was able to build a successful and profitable legal business.

So I definitely had another topic planned out to record for today's episode, but I just needed to take a coffee check.

Grief is the biggest thing in my life at the moment, and the waves come and go. Recently, I've had to zoom out and say, "Hey, I can't take this on... I'm not doing okay." It's perfectly fine to say no to things when you aren't doing good emotionally and mentally.

I've been focused on doing what I can for my business that will actually help and be used long-term. I've been able to build my team up with amazing people who keep things running as I need to step back here and there. I knew my dad was sick at the beginning of starting this business, so I was very intentional about building it up this way.

So heres the thing; Businesses generally have the freedom to price their offers as they deem fit. However, this freedom doesn't mean they can include deceptive promises or provide misleading information related to their pricing. It's completely fine to highlight the positive outcomes of previous customers, but you have to be specific and accurate. It's essential to ensure that pricing remains transparent at all times and that the actual charge matches the advertised price.

A significant aspect of online business is recurring payments, whether that’s subscriptions or payment plans. It's important to understand that laws govern auto-charging credit cards, and the language used to convey this to customers needs to be crystal clear. When customers sign up for a payment plan, they implicitly agree to the automatic charges, eliminating the need for businesses to seek permission every time a charge is initiated.

When you enter this territory, you're also entering the side of things where chargebacks, refunds, etc. can come up. You want to be sure that you have your refund policies in place and all of your legal ducks in a row to prevent any craziness from happening.

It took me a bit to find my groove, but now I feel like I'm rockin' and rollin'. I'm not just churning out words, just because; I'm being intentional with making sure that this book is as helpful to you as possible. This isn't going to be a cookie-cutter approach to building a business, I'm inviting you into my world, complete with the wins, the losses, and all of the "aha" moments.

I'm getting really close to handing it in. I'm actually really excited about the opportunity to improve as a writer and get feedback on what I've written so far. I'd love your encouragement (trust me, I need all the pep talks you've got) to finish up this first set of chapters - this has been the hardest few months of my life since losing my Mom. It's hard to even get myself motivated to get dressed, let alone to write a book 😝
