Can I be honest with you? I feel like I’m going through a business growth spurt right now. I get these from time to time — where I can tell my business is going to the next level and the momentum is really palpable.
I know we all want consistent, steady, positive growth in our businesses. But, in reality – it’s much more like walking (or trudging) up a set of stairs.
Over the past six years, there have been times when I felt like I was working hard with little to show for it, the flat part of the staircase. But then, suddenly, I would see the little seedlings I had planted begin to grow, the step up.
Just like when the elevator’s down and you’re stuck taking the stairs to the 5th floor of a parking garage, you have to ground yourself on the flat step in order to take another step forward. With each ascension comes another grounding opportunity in order for you to get ready for the next step.
With the benefit and privilege of time, I’m able to tell myself now that both of these phases (the flat part & the step up) are normal and necessary. But something else I’ve been telling myself lately has been even more helpful to my growth and positive mindset. I keep telling myself…
✨ This is just the beginning.
Every time I land a podcast interview I can’t believe I got, or a speaking gig that seems like a dream come true, I say, “this is just the beginning. I’m just getting started.”
Not because I’m not grateful. Not because those opportunities aren’t incredible in their own right. And definitely not because you always have to have more, more, more to be happy. But because I know the universe is just showing me what’s merely possible for me — not the limit of what’s out there.
The other day at the gym, someone said: “the sky isn’t the limit. It’s just the view.” It nearly knocked my Bombas off.
What Can You See In Your Business?
So here’s what I need you to know: what you can see in your business right now — that’s just the view of what’s possible, not the limit. Maybe you can’t even see what’s coming for you yet. But it’s there — out there in the universe floating around. And I have no doubt that if you keep working, stay true to your values, and get really good at marketing (honestly lol) — you’ll find it.
Remember, you’re not alone in this. We all go through periods of growth and feeling stuck. Just like stairs, your journey will have flat parts and steps up. Both of these phases are normal and necessary, and each one will help you grow and prepare you for the next step.
So, ground yourself on the flat step and keep pushing forward. This is just the beginning.
