Finding My Way

Finding My Way

I’m not being dramatic when I say, the last few years have burned me down to my core.

Maybe it was like pruning a plant that needed to be tended to.

Or maybe it was more like a forest fire, burning everything in its wake, but leaving lots of nutrient dense ash on the forest floor

Regardless, the last few years have handed me a factory reset option.

The real question was whether I’d actually push the button, or whether I’d stay broken and lost.

Losing both of my parents in general, let alone in such close succession, left me feeling adrift at sea, floating on the only life raft I’d ever known, alone, without food, water, or my beloved Supergoop SPF chapstick.

In a word, I’ve felt untethered.

But there’s a positive part to this untetheredness, too.

One I probably haven’t noticed, let alone felt comfortable claiming, until recently.

I never thought I’d start sentences like, “the only positive part to my parents dying was that…”

There’s a time in your grief when sadness, and sadness alone, dominate your every waking moment.

And in my experience, there comes a time when you face a choice:

Staying in the sadness and the sadness only. Or carrying the sadness like a backpack, while you hike the rest of life.

Some days the backpack feels heavier than others. Some days I have to take the backpack off.

But more often than not, I put one foot in front of another and figure out how to navigate this world amidst my untethering.

Just like the forest floor after it’s been burned, when you’ve been burned down to your core, you have the opportunity to come back stronger, more resilient, and different than before.

In the 8 years since I started my online business, I’ve evolved and changed (as I’d hope one does!).

My business has and continues to be very successful. And if you’ve spent even 5 minutes with me IRL, you know how much I love what I do.

But with as much as I’ve changed (and the online space has changed alongside me), it’s getting harder to want to do the same things, the same ways.

All I know is this:

I want to spread my wings.

I’m not just that legal girl. And I don’t just have to talk about legal stuff.

Yes I sell legal stuff, but there’s more to me, as a person and creator, than contracts and disclaimers.

I have a lot to teach you, to share with you.

I shared in this week’s episode what my big scary dream is, the one I’m afraid to say out loud of out fear of what you’ll think of me.

If you want to hear more about how I’m evolving, what’s next for me and my business, and the things I’m doing offline this summer to support my mental, emotional, and professional selves —

If you don’t feel like 2025 is a transformational year for you, too — it might not be the right episode for you.

Or if you don’t feel like you want to evolve and branch out of what you might have been known for — it might not be a great listen.

If that sounds like you, though — ENJOY!

Comment and let me know if this spoke to you.

I can’t wait to hear from you.
