Is it time to take a break?
It’s OK to Pause
I’m just going to be straight with you, as always —
I am BEAT.
I’ve been sick as a dog for the last 10 days — barely clearing 600 steps on my Apple Watch per day (if we’re being honest, most of those ‘steps’ were probably me lifting my coffee cup to my mouth.)
You know what’s really awesome about this timing?
The final manuscript of my book is due to my publisher this week (delayed)
I was supposed to spend a few days this week on the beach with my family, a trip I’ve been looking forward to all summer (canceled)
I’m training for a Hyrox (fitness race) in Chicago this November, and right now I can barely move (training on hold)
My Mom always told me how important it is to laugh at yourself — so I couldn’t help but laugh that 2 weeks ago I wrote you this super-human post about how productive I was.
Or how my new podcast episode this week was about how I put the podcast on pause because I feel crispier than the bottom of a wood-fired pizza (which I recorded a month ago).
Whether it was my parents’ deaths or a totally unexpected autoimmune disorder diagnosis this year, at times it has felt like life has thrown road spikes in front of my body’s tires.
I was stoppin’ whether I wanted to or not.
So yes, I put my podcast (On Your Terms®) on pause for a few months. I want to finish my book, swim in the ocean, train for my Hyrox race, and run the rest of my very busy business.
Sometimes something’s gotta give — even if it’s one of the things you love doing the most.
If you need to set something in your business aside, even something you love, that’s OK. It will be there when you’re ready.
After 7+ years in online business, I can tell you that most things that feel so consequential and dire right now in your business, aren’t.
You may be working on something in your business a lot — but with little to show for it. Sometimes it takes stepping away, or re-working something, to see that.
Hitting pause on something might give you the space to pour energy into a project you’ve really wanted to get to, but haven’t been able to. For me, I started a Substack a while back.
(Psssst! You can follow my free Substack here. I post Substack-exclusive essays and will continue to write more post-book. With Substack, I love that you can comment & get replies. If you follow me there AND here, you can edit your Substack notifications so you don’t get double emails.)
While I look forward to going deeper with Substack in the near, post-book future, for now I’ve got my head down, another pot of coffee on, and a good Spotify list going to keep me motivated.
Here’s to pruning when we need to, so better things can grow.
Ps. If you follow me on Substack, please comment and say hi! I hope you love it there as much as I do.

Subscriber Question of the Week
“Once you have a DBA, can you choose to go back to the original name of the LLC?”
Just because you have a d/b/a doesn’t mean you have to go by it. You can still go by your LLC name.
