Just Bake the Freakin’ Cake
Here’s a hard truth I’ve had to come to terms with as I grow in business:
The more of an expert I become at my craft, the more I doubt myself.
Can you relate? If so, stick with me here ⬇️.
This “aha moment” happened a few weeks ago when I volunteered to bring a dessert to a neighbor’s gathering.
Actually, I didn’t just decide to bring, but make a chocolate cake – a cake I’ve made many, many times. But I’m not the most confident baker.
Even though I’d made this cake a dozen times, I didn’t trust my gut about a part of the recipe, which led me to be REALLY hard on myself to the point where I thought I had ruined it.
You’ll have to tune into today’s On Your Terms podcast episode to see how my cake turned out, but this process showed me how we tend to be our own worst critics – especially in business.
We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to create something perfect when what people really want is for us just to make the freakin’ cake.
If you’ve ever found yourself doubting your skills or underestimating your value, despite your expertise, join me in this episode as I draw parallels between baking a chocolate cake and navigating life’s pressures.
We’ll explore:
➡️ The importance of trusting your gut
➡️ Allowing things time to come together
➡️ And realizing that ‘good enough’ is sometimes just perfect.
You can catch the episode on Apple, Spotify, or directly on my podcast page, and leave feeling confident and prepared to make your first hire.
