How to add 1,000 subs to your email list
Taking Control of Your Bumpy Road
The pilot just turned on the seatbelt sign because 30,000 feet somewhere above New York City, things are getting bummpppyy on my way to Mexico for a business retreat.
Speaking of bumpy things —
Running your own business can be a little rough at times, right?
Years ago, I was talking to one of my mentors, Jamie Mendell, about the mean comments I’d started getting online.
“What if we acted like this was to-be-expected? Part of the process…” Jamie said.
Instead of me fighting it every time I got a mean comment or email, I started seeing them as to-be-expected bumps in the road.
If your business building journey has been a little rockier than expected, you don’t need another course or a guru’s “secret tips” to make your path smoother— you need to adjust your expectations.
Just like turbulence, bumps in your journey are a normal part of the process.
The truth is, there are just as many (if not more!) challenges hiding around each corner as you scale.
It’s as if online business were a giant game of American Ninja Warrior, trying to knock you off course any chance it gets.
There will be obstacles (online courses! gurus! content galore! trends! new apps!) waiting for you at each new stage, ready to plunge you into the water.
It’s your job to navigate your way to (business) safety.
How?
One of the ways to sustainably grow a successful online business is to declare what you want to grow and then focus on it (aka, ‘lock in’ as the kids say.)
Pick something to focus on for the next 6 months.
Is it email list growth?
Starting a podcast?
Launching a membership?
You’d be shocked what happens when you stop bopping around from app to app, marketing channel to marketing channel, and just declare your intention to grow one thing.
If I were you, I’d pick #1: growing my email list.
If you want to live a full, present life offline, while still building a really profitable business online, an email list full of the right people is your ticket.

Want weekends off, but still need to make money? Pre-schedule emails for Sat-Sun to promote your offer.
That cold you caught from your kid’s daycare that knocked you out of commission for a week? Your nurture sequence is going out to new subs, they’re replying + buying.
That scary health diagnosis that’s got you feeling anti-social (media)? No sweat, because your email list is where people buy stuff from you anyway. Log off, friend.
